NSTW '97 focuses on "Webs, Wires, and Waves"
by Irma S. Jarcho This year's National Science and Technology Week (NSTW '97) has as its theme "Webs, Wires, and Waves," in recognition of the impact that communications and related technologies have on everyday living. During NSTW '97, which runs 20-26 April 1997, scientists and engineers studying the environment will help answer questions on the "Ask a Scientist and Engineer Hotline," which will be operational Wednesday, 23 April from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (1-(800)-682-2713).
Closely allied to NSTW '97 is the GLOBE program, which is a public-private partnership led by the NSF, NOAA, NASA, EPA, and the U.S. Departments of Education and State. Students participating in GLOBE collect scientifically-useful environmental data, then transmit it to scientists. They, in turn, use the data in their research and provide feedback to students.
For more information on participating, contact the GLOBE Program, 744 Jackson Place, Washington, DC 20503, 1-(800)-858-9947.
