Honors to Clearinghouse Contributors Jarcho, Passow, others recognized

Clearinghouse cofounder Irma S. Jarcho has just been elected to serve on the Board of the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education, with which the Clearinghouse has been affiliated since 1990. She succeeds Clearinghouse cofounder Nancy Van Vranken, who has just completed a three-year term. Her election to the Triangle Coalition Board extends an already lengthy string of service, including the NSTA Task Force on Major Social Issues to Serve as Organizers for School Science, the National Advisory Council of "S-STS: Teaching Science via Science, Technology, and Society Material," the Advisory Panel for OTA (Office of Technology Assessment) assessment of education and employment of scientists and engineers, the National Master Educators Network of the Office of Science Education's website, the Association of Teachers in Independent Schools, and (twice) the National Association for Science, Technology, and Society.

Also recently honored was Earth Sciences Correspondent Michael J. Passow. This spring he received the Presidential Award from the Science Council Of New York City for the National Space Society - Education Chapter and the Westchester STANYS (Science Teachers Association of New York State) "Excellence in Teaching" award. Passow, whose contributions to this Newsletter date to our Spring 1985 issue, is also the recipient of the Catalyst award and was twice named the "Outstanding Earth ScienceTeacher" for New York State. Other recipients of the Presidential Award from the Science Council Of New York City who have contributed to this Newsletter are Paul Jablon, recognized by the Elementary School Science Association, and Rudolph Jones, recognized by the Chemistry Teachers Club of New York.
