It is with great regret that we announce the resignation of Nancy Van Vranken from her position as Contributing Editor to the Teachers Clearinghouse Newsletter and as a Director of the Clearinghouse. Given Nancy's newfound interest in furniture restoration and horticultural activities which preclude her devoting the time needed for Clearinghouse activities, her decision is understandable, and we accept it with all our best wishes for her future endeavors. We also want to take this opportunity for thanking Nancy for her seventeen years of service. During that time she founded and edited annual special topic Supplements, whose significance was recognized by the ERIC Clearinghouse, which included them in their database. Nancy was also responsible for a majority of fundraising for the Clearinghouse, which enabled our Newsletter to be sent gratis for so many years. Thanks to Nancy - Welcome to Scott
In addition to work done directly for the Clearinghouse, Nancy also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the National Association of Biology Teachers and represented the Clearinghouse on the Board of the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education. In recent years she has become familiar as the coordinator of exhibits for the annual STS meetings of the National Association for Science, Technology, and Society, a position she will continue to fill.
At the same time, it is our great pleasure to welcome as a Director of the Clearinghouse our Webmaster, Scott Wickham. It was through Nancy, in fact, that we met Scott -- they once both taught at St. Bernard's School in New York City -- and it was through Scott that we have mounted our web site, which has enabled interested readers to continue to benefit from Clearinghouse materials free of charge even though a nominal fee is now required for a "hard copy" subscription. This will enable the Clearinghouse to benefit even more from Scott's expertise and will insure the continuance of our web site for many years to come. So, to Nancy, all our thanks and best wishes; and, to Scott, a great big welcome!
