Upper atmospheric temperature measurements have found additional evidence for the predictions of global waming from greenhouse gases -- stratospheric cooling and tropospheric warming, especially in the Southern Hemisphere. Although some find it difficult to distinguish a clear global warming signal from climatic fluctuation, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory Director Jerry Mahlman calls it "the closest to a smoking gun."
